Flex and STMicroelectronics to Present Electric Vehicle Power Electronic Breakthroughs at CES 2024
Flex Power Modules Collaborates with STMicroelectronics to Unveil Cutting-Edge EV Power Solutions at CES 2024
At the upcoming CES 2024, Flex Power Modules, renowned for its innovative power solutions, will join forces with STMicroelectronics, an illustrious semiconductor authority catering to a diverse range of electronics applications. This dynamic partnership is set to showcase state-of-the-art power electronic technologies for the EV market. The highlight is the integration of STMicroelectronics' silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFETs with other pivotal components into Flex's pioneering High Voltage (HV) Combo Units. These units amalgamate a DC/DC converter with an onboard charger, constituting a comprehensive power conversion system for electric vehicles. The fusion of STMicroelectronics' technological prowess and Flex's manufacturing excellence aims to expedite the evolution of distinctive electric vehicles.
Prominent features of Flex's HV Combo Units include a versatile bi-directional architecture, which facilitates both energy conversion and charging, enabling services like vehicle-to-load and vehicle-to-grid interactions. Moreover, a high-voltage pre-charge functionality enhances the durability of critical battery elements. Through these innovations, automakers are poised to optimize EV performance and extend driving range by exploiting the units' superior power density and efficiency.
Embracing the transformative power of AI-driven approaches, Flex has ventured beyond the realm of manufacturing. The company's legal division overseeing Global Procurement and Supply Chain has adeptly adopted AI to refine the process of examining non-disclosure agreements. Buoyed by early triumphs, Flex has expanded this AI application to refine reviews of supply chain contracts. This strategic step eradicates the tedium of manual contract assessment, cutting down the process time from days to just five minutes, thereby bolstering Flex's responsiveness and agility in fulfilling business demands and reaffirming its dedication to partnership within the value chain.
Mike Thoeny, President of the Automotive Business Group at Flex, underscores the industry transformation: "As automakers evolve into comprehensive mobility service providers, their emphasis has shifted to developing proprietary technology, software, and content to fulfill consumer expectations. They're now safeguarding their innovations to create stand-out offerings. Such a transformation necessitates a new-era ecosystem characterized by in-depth cooperation, prompting automakers and allies to pool their unique capabilities and collaborate from the outset of product development. Our collaboration with STMicroelectronics exemplifies Flex's approach to partnering within the ecosystem, equipping automakers with the means to launch superior, dependable mobility solutions swiftly and efficiently."
